Deadwood Floats - Song For Remembrance

If we must rely on something for fashion advice, don't always reach for Vogue just yet, because magazines tend to put out what needs to be sold in a certain season. Hey, they need the love from their sponsors, aite? And you can't always rely on your fashion-savvy mom either. Her taste and style is her own, and the rules governing her mix-n-match ritual is dated and jaded. Recently I've been dabbling in StreetStyle, and her approval has not been gained. She preferred my sweeter, more elegant approach to fashion back when I was trying to emulate her. For her, beige dress must go with beige shoes and beige jewellery. I hate that. It makes her look like a mannequin. I love the clashing of colours and the bold attitude that goes into making it happen.

As I was saying, don't take fashion advice from anyone but from mistakes. And you won't know a mistake until you start getting raised eyebrows from the eccentrics. Or you won't know a mistake until you admit it's a mistake. It's all a matter of pride, really. I like to see it as an individual's well-developed confidence.

If we must rely on something for fashion advice, let it be our instincts. Our feelings. Or what makes us tick. Or vintage photos. Because the people in vintage photos - the Bold 30s and 40s - are confident and adventurous. Before the conformism of the 60s came and took away taste.
